The Asian American Arts Centre was founded in 1974 as the Asian American Dance Theatre in New York City to address the distinctive concerns of Asian Americans in the United States.

As of 2024, stewardship and future programming has been entrusted to Think!Chinatown (T!C). This partnership with T!C guides the Arts Centre towards becoming a community arts research hub which will establish a physical space for research, foster scholarly and community exploration of Asian American art and history, and expand the Arts Centre's collection.

In this way our mission continues to promote the preservation and creative vitality of Asian American cultural growth through the arts, and its historical and aesthetic linkage to other communities.

This Artspiral website primarily serves as a record for our past programs and exhibitions. It also interfaces the exhibitions timeline to artists documents featured in http://artasiamerica.org/. In this way most of the exhibitions/events done from 1983 to 2019 have been linked to their original documents. For dance events see Asian American Dance Theatre - http://artspiral.org/aadt.php.
