ARTASIAMERICA.ORG
artasiamerica launched! announces The Launching Of artasiamerica Asian American Arts Centre (AAAC) is delighted to announce our new digital archive, artasiamerica.org. This launch marks the beginning of a growing digital archive for the history of Asian American contemporary art. This is the first resource of its kind. The AAAC Artist Archive consists of historical images and documents focused on Asian American visual culture from 1945 to the present. Now, the digital archive, selected from our physical archive, is a professional collection of Asian/Asian American contemporary visual artists. The AAAC started digitizing the archive two years ago and has opened the doors to the public posting 150 artists. The second phase will continue to cull the artists who were important in articulating the subject of Asian American Art and the issues of diversity in America. AAAC has worked in many cases with artists to select the images and documents to reflect better each artist’s career. Please note that this digital archive is a work in progress. Things will change, additions will be posted regularly, and corrections made. Also, all work whose images appear online is by the artist’s agreement, and the ownership of copyright remains with the artist or legal holder. The archive's focus is to provide a record of contemporary history by documenting the presence of Asian, Asian American, and other diverse artists working today. It has a highly functional advanced search, indexes for terms that are controlled by archival standards, images and documents that are freely available for academic and educational purposes. AAAC is proud to announce the launch of artasiamerica.org! The digital archive is now accessible globally to scholars, historians, curators, artists, as well as an educational resource for college and high school students, teachers, and community members. Please circulate this news with your colleagues and peers, and we hope to hear from you soon with comments and suggestions.
