A special outdoor event took place for the Chinatown community in Columbus Park last summer. To rouse community support and participation the slogan “藝匯唐人街” was created, which means “A Gathering of the Arts in Chinatown.” This rare opportunity was for the community: to rally around, to see and hear itself, to create works of art together.

The panels were installed on May 9, 2009 and modified by members of the community over the summer. Poems and paintings expressed joy as well as community issues, in the words of Chinatown’s residents and visitors.

Now on May 9, 2010 we offer a second chance to support your community. Come see these panels in their final states, and support the Asian American Arts Centre’s and our artists by purchasing these community collaborations.

Images of these panels, as well as photographs taken during the installation, will be online. Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural & Educational Center (CSV), an arts center for contemporary arts and art related community services.
